Sheila, you have a knack for sparking old memories. Back in college, my youthful curiosity drew me briefly (very briefly) to an exploration of the Buddhist way of life. I don't exactly remember how and when I lost interest and went on to other things but I think it had something to do with alcohol, illegal substances, members of the opposite sex or all of the above.
The memory you rekindled was of the Buddhist practice of Lojong - training of the mind. Several of its eight verses on thought transformation were very puzzling to me at the time so I simply dismissed them as odd and never gave it a second thought - until your "grounded in gratitude" reference to showing gratitude for the bad as well as the good. The verses go something like this and they certainly hold a lot more meaning for me now - maybe it's got something to do with the 40 years that have past since I last gave it some thought, maybe it's got something to do with my yoga practice! Any way, thank you for jarring the memories.
* Whenever I meet someone "bad" who is overwhelmed by negative energy and intense suffering, I will hold such a rare one dear, as if I had found a precious treasure.
* When others, out of anger or jealousy, mistreat me with abuse or slander I will practice accepting defeat and offering the victory to them.
*When someone I have benefited and in whom I have placed great trust hurts me badly, I will practice seeing that person as my supreme teacher.

“In this life we cannot do great things. We can only do small things with great intention.”
Great quote Michael! May we always think & act with good intentions, from the generosity of our spirits, so that those around us benefit! My study & practice of Anusara yoga has helped me cultivate a deep perspective which is to see the good in others and to be full of love & compassion for my fellow human beings. I continue to be urged to give & share with great delight, always! Thank you.

A very good looking website! Welcome to the babbling glow of the 'net.

I was thinking, that you could make short blog posts/meditation topics out of the introductions you do in class : today's about feeling the cycle in the wider world and within our bodies, is a great thought!
